100th Artist Spotlight Feature: Mod Sun

Hey everyone!

My blog, MusicBoxPete reaches a major milestone this morning. Today, I'm proud to announce that I've reached the plateau of 100 artists that have been covered in my weekly Artist Spotlight series! Artist Spotlight first debuted on the blog during the summer of 2010 as a semi-recurring feature, then it became a regular weekly feature on the blog later on that fall and has become a hallmark staple of the blog where every Tuesday, an emerging artist from the New England area would get their opportunity to shine and be noticed for all of their musical accomplishments and have me come along and describe what sets them apart from the other artists out there. Eventually, it evolved where on occasion I would feature some artists from outside of the Boston area and all across the U.S.A., and sometimes I would even feature artists from outside of the country from places such as Russia and the Czech Republic.

I'm truly honored to have covered so many diverse and entertaining artists that have the ability to transcend from the ordinary type of artist making their way in the scene today, and offer up something different and inviting for the casual music listener like myself. Thanks to all my readers for making this feature of the blog such a huge success and a big thanks to all the artists for taking part and making such groundbreaking and authentic music! And without further ado, I gladly present my 100th Artist spotlight subject... Mod Sun:

Mod Sun is a rapper from Bloomington, Minnesota and has really left an indelible impression on me with his upbeat, positive attitude and his unique blend of hip-hop that's not actually rap, but he describes as something called "hippy-hop". Basically, it's hip-hop without stereotypical references to gangs, girls, guns, nice shoes, or flashy cars and instead focuses on more positive aspects of life such as being your own person, helping a friend of yours out, and being in control of your own destiny. I first stumbled upon Mod Sun on YouTube, when I came across an interview he did with Bryan Stars that featured Pat Brown (his DJ/tour manager), plus Alex and Jack from All Time Low and I was absolutely enthralled with his outrageous and awesome personality that fit in perfectly with the type of music that he performs on a regular basis and his upbeat take on life in general really sets him apart from the other musical acts out there. A lot of artists (especially rappers) should take some notes of what Mod Sun is doing and learn to implement the same kind of positive outlook that he portrays on a daily basis in his own personal life. An outstanding rapper with a whole wealth of potential of even greater success laying right at this feet. Some recommended tracks from him to check out include "Happy as Fuck" (f/Pat Brown) and "Hug Life".

For more information on Mod Sun, cruise on over to his Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/friendbase and look to see what he's up to this very minute. He's also available to be followed on Twitter by going to: www.twitter.com/modsun and see what tour dates he has coming up soon that may be dropping by your area! His official website at modsunmusic.com has a link to his clothing company, Modern Sunshine (which is essentially the merch for Mod Sun) among other pertinent features that you'll definitely find worth your while. His latest EP titled "Happy as Fuck" is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and all other fine digital music retailers.
