Hey everyone!
Hope everybody had a great Memorial Day weekend! It's time to get back in the swing of things and check out this week's edition of Artist Spotlight. Today, we head north of the border up to Toronto, Ontario, Canada and discover the sounds of Shortwave! The band consists of Ryan Johnson on lead vocals and guitar, Devin Jannetta on drums, Sager Johnson on guitar and backup vocals, Nik Odermatt on bass, and Cary Parker on organ and backup vocals. The band has an intense, rhythmic indie/dance-rock feel to them sort of a cross between Phoenix and The Kooks. The melodies are guaranteed to grab a hold of you upon first listen and it will keep your head bopping right until the very end. I was immediately impressed with the band's innate ability to meld together simple, indie-rock patterns and insert melodic, danceable beats into them that sets them apart from other up and coming indie rock acts and attracts new listeners from different genres as well. Some of my favorite songs from these guys include "The Sublime" and "Horror Show".
