Starting off the week fresh with a brand new installment of Artist Spotlight! Today, we keep it local as always here in Boston and come across the folk infused vibes of our own The Novel Ideas. The group consists of Daniel on guitar and vocals, Sarah on vocals, Danny on pedal steel, guitar, and vocals, James on bass and backing vocals, and Nick on drums. The band is based out of Brighton, MA and has an old school, pure and unadulterated sound similar to that of The Lumineers and Mumford & Sons with an exquisite lyrical framework that is totally representative of the new-folk movement that is extant and omnipresent everywhere you turn musically today. I managed to catch these guys in concert last week at the Local 92.9 showcase at The Foundation Room, and I was enthralled with their stage presence and the choice of venue was tailor made for their genre of music and the image that they wanted to convey to their musical audience, who took everything that the group sang to heart and joined them in the end for a stirring rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide", which brought everyone in the house together to marvel and be a witness of what was going on right in front of them. A terrific local band that is primed to get more notice and traction this year. Some amazing tracks for you to familiarize yourselves with include "The Blue Between Us" and "Running Speed".
